Ask The Cool Mom: Why You Need to Stop Wasting Your Time

“You can be anything you want to be.”

This is something we are told from a very early age. When we tell our mothers we want to be firemen, princesses and Batman, this is what they reply with. They believe in us, and in turn we believe in ourselves.

When we grow up, we forget what our mothers told us. We get so consumed with life and it’s constant needs that we are rarely happy with where we are at. Opportunities are thrown away because we are so afraid of failure. We don’t take risks. We stop believing in ourselves. Most of us end up working jobs that we don’t even like, but hey… it pays the bills so we stick with it because we don’t have a choice.

And we go on like that, day after day. Except the days become weeks, weeks become months….Before you know it, you have spent years of your life doing something that you don’t truly enjoy.

You can’t get that time back.

But you can change your future.

Decide what you want to do, and do it.  You will struggle, you will be tired, you will fail. You will want to give up, but don’t. If you keep working hard, staying consistent and persistent, you will get somewhere. You will be further than you were when you began and seeing your accomplishments will motivate you to go even further.

Now, I’m not suggesting you just up and quit your job to pursue whatever it is that you love full time. Some people have been able to, and that’s amazing for them. But for most of us that is unrealistic. What I’m saying is, while you are working your 9 to 5…work towards your happiness, too. Eventually you can ditch the job that’s weighing you down and live exactly how you dream to.

There are 24 hours in a day..make the most of them. What are you waiting for?

I read this yesterday when I got the email through my subscription. And your message couldn’t have come at a better time. I just started on getting back into my dreams that I had as a little girl. It will take time. And a lot of work especially with the kids and my job and blogging lol. But I will not give up. I definitely cannot get this time back. So I will work on changing my future. Thanks for this and wish me luck!

  • SO easy to waste time. Us humans love to conserve energy. Our brains don’t care about our dreams. They just want us to be comfortable. We have to push past that. Great post, cool mom.

  • It’s crazy to even think about the time that is wasted. And I would agree that most of us don’t take risks as often as maybe we should. — Amy @ http://thegiftedgabber.com/

  • Agreed! Too often we can get caught up in the day-to-day grind. We should always challenge ourselves or attempt to grow. Thanks for sharing.
