Can you believe the first month of 2017 is almost over? 2016 came and went entirely too fast. With the fresh new year starting, comes fresh new goals. New year, new me. Right?
I know, I know. Everyone starts out the year so motivated and then come February we’re back to being slackers. But I have 3 easy ways you can stay on top of your goals.
Write your goals down. If I don’t write my ideas down, I’m most likely to forget them. The same is probably true for you, too. You’ve got You can think of your goals all you want, but they will get pushed to the back of your mind if you don’t put them on paper and make them real!
Don’t make excuses. One of my biggest weaknesses is putting things off. I always think, “I can just do this later. I have enough time. What difference will one more day make?” Let me tell you, it makes a HUGE difference. A day turns into two, two turns into a week and then you’re left wishing you had just finished when you were supposed to. After you write your goals down, share your goals and your progress with someone close to you. You are less likely to slack off if someone else is helping to keep you accountable and motivating you to reach your goals.
Reward yourself. When you complete a goal, celebrate! In the words of Nikita Khruschev, “Call it what you will, incentives are what get people to work harder.” Who doesn’t like to treat themselves every now and then? Set your goal, and designate an incentive to complete it. It could be as small as your favorite Starbucks drink or as big as that new laptop you’ve been eyeing. Whatever it is, I promise you will be more eager to get to make it to the finish line and complete your goal with a reward in place.
So simple, right?!
You may have noticed a bit of radio silence from me recently. That’s because I was busy doing the things I listed above to complete my starting goals for the blog! In the month (okay, a little over a month) since my last post, I worked very hard to revamp my site and. Today, this blog turns a year old (see my very first post here) and I wanted to bring you something special to celebrate this journey! The goal setting workbook is only 10 pages, but it includes a vision statement, goal sheets, a habit tracker and a reflection page. The best thing about it is you can print more pages as you need them. If you complete it, as I did, you can start over with more goals!
