A Good Morning Routine That Will Make Holiday Planning Less Stressful

Planning for the holidays can be stressful. There’s no changing that. However, you can make it easier on yourself and your kids by having a good “get up and go” morning routine in place. That way, you’re ready for whatever the holidays bring. Here are some tips:

    1. Advice on establishing a successful morning routine for kids

If you don’t already have a morning routine established, it’s time to set one. Take a moment to sit down and create a list or chart of everything that needs to be done each morning such as brushing teeth, brushing hair, getting dressed, and eating breakfast. If you have younger children that aren’t reading yet, use pictures to describe the activity. Don’t forget to set a morning routine for yourself too. Perhaps you’d like to be able to enjoy a cup of coffee, shower, or watch the morning news. This might require getting up 30 minutes earlier than your children, but it can be the positive start to the day you need.

    2. Outsource what you can – e.g. hire a dog walker

In all the morning rush, sometimes certain chores don’t happen such as taking the dog out for a walk. Perhaps your home could benefit from a weekly clean or your yard is begging for attention. There is nothing wrong with outsourcing, and in the end, it could be the lifesaver you need.

    3. How to de-stress your morning routine

If you are feeling stressed, chances are it is carrying over into the way you are handling yourself. Kids can pick up on even the smallest change in demeanor, so if you stay calm, they will too. Avoid the morning scramble by preparing the night before. Make sure book bags are packed and waiting by the door, clothes and shoes are laid out, lunches are packed, and your car keys are in plain sight.

    4. Tips on how to get the kids to school on time

If it seems like you are constantly rushing to get the kids to school on time, you aren’t alone. Parents everywhere struggle with the same thing, and as some openly admit, they have at times resorted to desperate (and comical) measures. Think air freshener in place of a bath or sending them to bed with tomorrow’s clothes already on. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do, and that could mean eating breakfast in the car or setting the clocks forward 30 minutes.

    5. A revolutionary morning routine hack for kids – play music

Music can cheer you up when you are having a bad day or calm you down when the stress is getting to be too much, so why not make music part of your children’s morning routine? Start with something slow and soothing during the wake up process and switch over to some of their favorite songs once they start getting ready. Let them pick the playlist, and switch it up every week or so to keep things fresh.

Now that you know how to energize your mornings, you can go into the holidays knowing that you’re ready for whatever the season may bring. Even if it’s fruitcake.
