The time is here. That’s right, the holidays are upon us. Hearing those words are great when you are a kid, aren’t they? I remember being so excited when the holidays came around. My biggest problem was not being able to sleep the night before Christmas because I was too excited to see my family, eat food and of course open gifts.
But, as an adult, holidays can be downright exhausting. There is just so much you have to do in so little time and it can suck the joy right out of the whole season.
What if I said you could make the holidays less stressful? I don’t have any top-secret solutions, but these four tips are sure to help you eliminate some, if not most, of the stress that comes from the holiday season.
One of my favorite childhood memories is of my uncle making coffee every morning. I loved the smell of fresh coffee, even then. Sometimes he would let me take a sip or two. I would savor the warmth and the taste of cinnamon and we would talk before I went to school.
Now, with three kids, I don’t always have the time to make it fresh. Okay, who am I kidding? I NEVER have time to make it fresh. That’s where Nestlé comes in to save the day. Instant Café de Olla right in my cup, mixed with sugar and a little nostalgia.
If you’re not a coffee drinker, you may want to start during holiday season. When you have a lot to do but haven’t gotten enough sleep, this instant coffee will be your best friend.
It’s natural to want everything to go exactly how you planned. When you expect things to be perfect, you will be disappointed 100% of the time. Give yourself a break, tell yourself that it’s the thought that counts and keep it moving. The holidays are about love and family, not about perfection. In 5 years, no one will remember whether the house was perfectly decorated or whether your gifts were flawlessly wrapped. Settle for good enough and the stress that comes from the sense of impending doom (aka failure) will disappear.
Keep Meals Simple
I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do after a day of checking things off the holiday to-do list is to come home and spend hours preparing food. During the holiday season, I go to Walmart and stock up on frozen meals from STOUFFER’S®. My family loves their lasagna and manicotti. I am able to pop them straight in the oven and relax. No mess, no stress and everyone is happy.
I switch it up and add my own touch to them sometimes, like when I make mac and cheese quesadillas (which are definitely kid approved). Prepare the Mac and cheese according to the box, throw it in a tortilla with extra shredded cheese for gooey goodness and cook it as you would a regular quesadilla. You can add whatever you want to it. Chicken, cilantro, onions, and bacon are just a few options.
Whenever I use STOUFFER’S® family meals, my mind is at ease and I get to spend more time with my family. Some would even say I am less of a Grinch ;).
Speaking of being a Grinch.. Stressing out over the holidays will certainly turn you into one. And it not only affects you, but it affects your family too. Make time to watch all the classic holiday movies, belt out songs, make cheesy cards and smile at everyone you meet. Happiness is contagious, spread it and the holiday cheer everywhere this year.
Cheers to a stress-free holiday season! Until next time,
