How To Survive Bed Rest With A Toddler

It’s been a while since my last post. Pregnancy is so tiring, y’all! Especially when you’re trying to keep your other kids alive at the same time. Since my last post, I had a pre-term labor scare. I was in the hospital overnight and was put on bed rest.

    Bed rest. With two toddlers.

I laughed right in my doctor’s face and said, “Yeah, right. Like that’s going to happen.”

It’s difficult enough being pregnant with a toddler. How was I supposed to manage being stuck in my bed, too?

But I quickly realized how necessary bed rest was for my health. I couldn’t be as active as I had been, and I would feel so miserable (or almost pass out) whenever I tried to be. I took some time off to adjust from always being on my feet and running after the kids to spending majority of my day sitting or laying down.

And let me tell you, it got boring and drove me absolutely insane.

Below are some ideas for surviving bed rest while pregnant.. and if you have young kids at home there are some ideas to keep them occupied as well.

    For yourself:

    • Tackle your reading list.
    • Fold laundry.
    • Stretch- so important to do since you wont be getting regular exercise.
    • Binge watch Netflix.
    • Practice new hairstyles and updos.
    • Coloring books.
    • Make a bucket list.
    • Scrapbook/ finally finish your baby book.
    • Color.
    • Make a budget or update the one you already have.
    • Coupon.
    • Catch up with an old friend or family member.
    • Clean out your email inbox.
    • Plan upcoming parties- birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
    • Plan your meals out. Again, Pinterest is great for this.
    • Make a recipe binder.
    • Organize your pictures: online or actual prints.
    • Learn a new hobby.
    • Research something you’ve always been interested in.
    • Plan out upcoming gifts for birthdays and holidays.

    For the kids:

    • Play dress up or have a fashion show.
    • Do your kids hair.
    • Paint the kids nails.
    • Let them watch TV and don’t feel bad about it.
    • Do fun activity books or coloring books.
    • Paint.
    • Make playdough masterpieces.
    • Legos.
    • Break out board games. Candyland, anyone?
    • Make macaroni art.
    • Puzzles!
    • Practice writing.
    • Cuddle.
    • Simply sit and talk to each other.
    • Play Simon says.
    • Turn your bed into a fort.
    • Read, read, read.
    • Put on music and let them have a dance party.
    • Go bowling- use plastic cups and whatever ball you have on hand.
    • Play with balloons, cardboard boxes, plastic kitchen utensils- any random items that are not usually toys. Because we all know how much non-toys fascinate kids.
